Upgrading to v6.x now is more important than ever!
About CrowdStrike, Windows BSODs, MongoDB, and avoiding the potential total loss of your (old v4/v5) SFTP server's configuration.
In light of the recent CrowdStrike incident, there has been an alarming increase in reports of corrupted MongoDB databases, particularly following instances of Windows' Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). This situation poses significant risks for users of Syncplify Server! versions 4 and 5.
The Vulnerability of MongoDB
The version of MongoDB that works with Syncplify software has shown vulnerabilities when faced with sudden system failures like BSODs. When these interruptions occur, they can lead to database corruption. If MongoDB becomes corrupted, all Syncplify Server! versions, from versions 4 and 5, will not start, and the configuration may become unrecoverable. This not only disrupts operations but also complicates the upgrade process to Syncplify Server! version 6, which requires a functional backup from the previous versions.
SyngoDB: A Superior Alternative
In contrast, Syncplify’s very own SyngoDB (developed in-house by Syncplify) has demonstrated remarkable resilience against sudden failures, including BSODs and hard reboots. Its architecture is designed to ensure perfect data integrity and zero data loss even in such extreme cases, making it a much more reliable choice for critical applications. This resilience can be crucial for organizations that depend on uninterrupted service and data consistency.
Urgent Upgrade Recommendation
Given the risks associated with MongoDB (which is the backend of Syncplify Server! v4 and v5) and the advantages of using SyngoDB (the new backend as of Syncplify Server! v6) it is imperative for all Syncplify customers to upgrade to Syncplify Server! version 6 as soon as possible. This upgrade not only enhances security and performance but also safeguards against potential data loss due to database corruption.

Important Clarification
It is crucial to recognize that if the MongoDB backend of Syncplify Server! v4/v5 becomes corrupted - an issue that arises independently of Syncplify's operations - restoring the functionality of your Syncplify Server! is impossible without a functional configuration backup stored securely.
