Vastly improved LDAP support coming to Syncplify Server! V7

Multiple domain controllers, more protocols, automatic fail-over, and more...

Two years ago, we released Syncplify Server! V6, our first fully cross-platform version. This milestone required us to abandon our previous (V1-V5) Windows-only Active Directory integration, which relied on low-level OS DLLs to bypass the LDAP protocol and interact with AD directly. Instead, as of V6 we embraced a 100% pure LDAP approach.

However, in its initial implementation, this new approach came with several limitations that some of our larger Enterprise customers found challenging to work with. Namely:

• Only LDAP and LDAPS are supported

• Only one domain controller (typically the primary one) can be specified, thus lacking fail-over support

• Only one built-in and immutable standard query was hard-coded in the software, preventing Admins from specifying their own (though it still works well for 99.8% of our customers)

The upcoming version 7 of Syncplify Server! builds upon this solid - yet simplified - foundation, and adds the following:

• Support for LDAP, LDAPS, LDAPI, and CLDAP

• Ability to specify multiple domain controllers per configuration, with automatic and transparent fail-over (and each DC can have its own individual LDAP* protocol flavor)

• The same excellent built-in query found in V6 to cover 99.8% of the cases without any special configuration, but also the ability (for LDAP masters) to override it by specifying their own custom query for the remaining 0.2% of the cases

These enhancements in V7 cater to the complex needs of large enterprises while maintaining the intuitive usability that all our customers, regardless of size, have come to appreciate.
